Caring For The Environment

The river is a sensitive and sometimes fragile environment and must be respected at all times. Please educate your group on the environmental issues, as they are as important as the safety requirements. Its up to us to help preserve the river and its surroundings for the enjoyment of all.The point of these river trips is about enjoying the country side, seeing wildlife and the peace and tranquility the river has to offer.

Launch and landing sites

Sensitive parking at the launch sites, orderly and quite unloading and briefings etc

No canoes to be left unattended at any site on the riverside, blocking the access for others either getting on or off the river.

Canoes to be carried at all times, to save wear and tear on the grass and riverbank.

No seal launching down the riverbanks .

Noise to be kept to a minimum on the river and access sites.

Rubbish to be returned and disposed of correctly.

Fires, only to be light with permission from all campsite and landowners permission, and cleared away correctly when finished.

River Side Camping, camping should only be done with the landowners permission, and behavior in line with the owners site rules.

River User’s ,other river users to be respected and accommodated as much as possible.

Symonds Yat Rapids

Symonds yat rapids has been regraded and permanent large stone block walls placed in the river bed, the island is to be as a wildlife area and access on to the island to be kept to a minimum for erosion and plant protection etc.

Inspection of the new rapids is essential for your first time, this would mean most canoe hirers. The whole approach to the rapids must be relevant to the real hazards involved, and may mean hire customers being guided down through the rapids by a competent river leader/Guide or portaging.

All are recommended to wear Helmets and Buoyancy Aids,  and all should be encouraged to inspect the rapids and make a sound judgement on the paddling of the rapids,as the rapids now have a strong flow in low water levels.

Fishing

When on the river please respect other river users, look out for fisherman and do your best to lessen the impact and disturbance you may cause when paddling by. A polite request to the fisherman of which side to pass him/them is appropriate and helpful.
