I’d like to say a big thank you to all the staff at Wyedean who made our 2 activities last weekend so enjoyable. Thanks to the canoe team on Saturday afternoon who despite the crowds and the late arrival of one of our party were very cheerful, helpful and efficient in setting us on our way. A big thanks to John who lead our two caving parties on Sunday. He managed to get the best out of all of us with his positive, calm and encouraging manner. We all thoroughly enjoyed both activities – and still have the bruises to prove it – and would recommend Wyedean for anyone looking for well run adventure activities.

After what seemed an eternity exchanging emails with the ever patient Sophie whilst our party decided when and what time and in what numbers they’d like to attend, the participating intrepid members of the Zuken Sports & Social Club, with partners, arrived for an afternoon’s canoeing on the Wye.

Miraculously we all paid attention to the safety briefing before fighting and jostling aboard the minibus for the quick trip to Kerne Bridge. There wasn’t really time to burst into song, by the time we’d all found the right key, we were there!

Some of us helped unload the canoes whilst others stood around like spare parts, but it was ever thus. Apart from an incident with a budding canoeist and a pile of doggy do-do, the mass launching went very well. Like homing pigeons we circled round upstream of the bridge three times, and then six two-seaters and a kayak with an umbrella for a rudder set off!

Tom paddled for two whilst his son beat time on a makeshift drum for’ard. Cass and Mike won the prize for the greatest distance covered by paddling from bank to bank all the way down, James and Kristy astounded us all by swapping seats mid-stream. Rhian got her dad to do all the paddling whilst she trailed a hand in the water, Richard and Kirsty scouted ahead, Liz and I brought up the rear like some obedient sheepdog and Michael paddled around us in his kayak taking pictures.

Several hours and a picnic later we all disembarked back at the canoe centre safe and sound. We hastened to the nearest pub for a pint of Old and Filthy and unanimously declared the event a roaring success.

Thank you Wyedean Canoe Centre for a brilliant afternoon!

In the words of McArthur and Arnie, ‘we’ll be back

After having a fabulous time in canoes on the River Wye during our recent camping holiday, we have just bought three second-hand kayaks from Ian who couldn’t have been more helpful and professional. We will be going back to Symonds Yat regularly and look forward to catching up with the staff again. For anyone thinking of taking the plunge I would recommend a visit to Wyedean Canoe and Adventure Centre at Symonds Yat East before going anywhere else.

  6. Brilliant service and advice. We’ve just purchased our own Kayaks (from Wyedean) and are looking forward to some professional coaching from the Wyedean staff, and some great times on the river – happy days.

    Top-Notch!

  7. Just got back from a 9 mile canoe and sat in the pub. We have had a really great day and thoroughly enjoyed it. Will definitely be back to have a go again.

    Thanks

Just back from a fantastic holiday. One of the highlights for my 4 year old daughter and 9 year old son was a half day family trip from Kerne Bridge back to the centre in Symonds Yat. They just loved the river and the view from the canoe as we let the current of the river help us with our paddling. The kids loved the wildlife, ducks following the canoe, swans and there cygnets, a bird of prey, fish jumping in the river to name but a few. My wife and I were very impressed with the staff and the training / briefing prior to hitting the water. Lifejackets were compulsory and we were not allowed to continue until we all had the correct size, the kids found them extremely comfortable as did mum and dad. A tremendous way to spend the afternoon and a great way to view the wye valley, river and surrounding countryside. Our next trip can’t be soon enough. I would highly recommend this as a fun family activity that just takes the stress away! Many thanks to the warm and friendly staff who welcomed us and made our trip so safe and enjoyable. All the best Wyedean looking forward to our next trip!

Just completed our second kayak training session with Alex from the Wyedean instructors, and never has learning been such fun! Both 3 hour sessions passed in the blink of an eye, and we learned loads!
Exellent coaching in a safe environment – we were impressed, and would recommend to anyone wanting to try kayaking.
Thanks Alex and thanks Wyedean! We’ll see you again!

This is the 2nd time we have used Wyedean and equally impressed. Great staff, very helpful and informative.
We have two children 4 and 7 who loved the 4 man Canoe. We booked a half day trip from Kerne bridge back to the centre, but this year took it out for the full day. This allowed us to stop twice, and take things really easy. We will definitely use them again.

Brilliant fun canoeing down the river, Staff were friendly, helpful and informative. We set off from the centre upstream, after a safety and instructional briefing, we set off down stream back to the centre. We stopped for our picnic on a bank half way. Sun was shining and we had fantastic time. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking about it.

    Thanks Wyedean!
Just had a fantastic day canoeing, my family and I went on the trip from Kerne Bridge to Symonds Yat East. Our day started with a very friendly greeting from the Wyedean staff at the canoe centre and a thorough briefing on Canoeing and river safety, which made us all feel very safe and excited to get going. We were then mini-bused upstream to our drop off point. The paddle back down was very pleasant and peaceful. Both my children actually got to see a kingfisher for the first time and we all spent some time bird watching by the Symonds Yat cliffs.
We then had an enjoyable time paddling back to the centre, taking in the beautiful scenery around us. Our day finished with once again another friendly greeting at the canoe get out point. Thank you to all the staff who made our day enjoyable i will most definitely be back and will recommend you to all my friends. Thanks

How much fun can you have.
I spent a very enjoyable weekend paddling on the river Wye with Wyedean and some friends. We paddled from ross to Symonds Yat and camped at the campsite on the riverbank. This was a very chilled out and relaxed day. Wyedaen even managed to arrange for us to have our evening meal at a local hotel restaurant. However it was on day two that we had the most fun. Some of my friends were a bit nervous about the rapids that we had to navigate through. no problem after a chat with the staff at the canoe centre we were able to hire a river guide who no only saw us safly through the rapids but was very helpfull with his local knowlage of the river for the rest of the trip ( Cheers John ). An absolutely fantastic weekend we wil be back
