Extensive Range of Team Building Activities
In order to provide the flexibility to cater for the different needs of our clients we possess an extensive range of activities from which to draw.
- Canoeing, kayaking, climbing, abseiling, orienteering, caving, rafting, mountain biking, trekking. . .can all be built into a programme. Our emphasis is to use the activities as a means for team development.
- Similarly, we have an array of team building and initiative tasks using simple materials. Also, we have low level and high level wire ropes courses, and an aerial rope slide.
- Our indoor facilities give us the ability to put together a wide selection of activities in the event of very poor weather conditions.
- Fun activities such as clay pigeon shooting, archery and team canoe racing can also be organised, or even more extravagant activities such as hot air ballooning or helicopter trips.
Also, Corporate Challenge events can provide a perfect environment for business team members to enjoy a fun, competitive challenge.
What can you expect?
The benefit of the outdoors. One of the most effective methods of developing the competencies and skills required of groups and individuals in today’s workplace is to first experience and practice these skills outside of the business framework. By using the outdoor environment, each activity is designed for you to achieve objectives through the use of these skills but without the constraints of organisational structure.
Our facilitators will then relate the skills learnt in the outdoors to the workplace and discuss how best they may be used and integrated
The likely content. Following a needs analysis determining your requirements, our solutions will include a blend of team building, development of key skills, challenge and fun, and will always be designed according to your wishes. The starting template for this design may involve a journey scenario along which challenges have to be completed in order to achieve the overall goal at the journey’s end. After each activity the learning points will be discussed. In the evening, there is further opportunity for reflection through workshops/activities or over a relaxing team BBQ or ‘banquet’ .

I wanted to write and thank you to say how much we appreciated all the hard work you put into our visit with you on 2/3 October. All your staff could not have been more helpful and you were brilliant constantly putting up with all the late night telephone conversations with my lost colleagues!
We really feel that the event went off extremely well. It was an experiment for us and although some people could not make the distance the majority seemed to excel in the unexpected surroundings and the atmosphere around the fire made it one of the best, if the not the best, corporate event we have had.
The activities the next morning were also excellent and so many people were on a complete high when they arrived at Celtic Manor having achieved the abseiling, rope climbing etc.
Thank you so much for all the effort you made in making our 24 hours with you such a success. You were extremely hospitable and helpful and we will recommend Holly Barn to anyone for a camping/outward bound experience in the future.

On behalf of Lloyd and myself, I would like to thank you for the help and guidance you have given with the planning of our off site meeting at Holly Barn last week. As I may have mentioned, this was the first time we have tried to arrange this type of team building event.
The feedback from the participants has been very positive – everyone enjoyed joining in the activities both during the days and the ’evening’. It was commented that the professional manner in which you and your helpers organised and supervised these activities helped everyone to achieve a greater understanding of working together.

Just a few lines to thank you for sending my fleece, left behind after last weeks Northgate course. I have debriefed Bernard on all aspects of the course and have given him and my fellow work friends the thumbs up. Personally I feel a 2 day course would be more beneficial, as would mixing up employees from different Northgate locations. Everyone I spoke to enjoyed the course and hopefully would be able to take something away to be utilised at their locations.
What is Team Building?
A team is a group of people working towards a common goal. ‘Team Building’ is the process of enabling that group of people to reach their goal. It is therefore a management issue, and the most effective form of team building is that undertaken as a form of management consultancy, rather than as pure training (though there is a role for training within a programme of team building).
In its simplest terms, the stages involved in team building are:
- To clarify the team goals
- To identify those issues which inhibit the team from reaching their goals
- To address those issues, remove the inhibitors and enable the goals to be achieved
The primary skills in this process are recognising the right issues, and tackling them in an appropriate way and an appropriate order. Team building can also take a different form depending on the size and nature of the team.
In a project environment, where team composition is continually changing, the emphasis must be on developing the skills in individuals to be effective team members. The ‘scale’ involved is 1 person, and the team building consultant is endeavouring to change the skills and abilities of the individual at operating within a team (or within multiple teams).
In teams where membership is static – typically in management teams – how the individuals within the team relate can have a big bearing on team performance. If a member leaves, or another joins, the dynamics of the team can be changed greatly. Here, the scale is small – say, 2 to about 12 – and the team building consultant endeavours to improve relationships between team members.
A larger scale operates between teams. Where the teams do not relate well, they are called ‘team islands’, and it is the relationship between the teams that becomes the focus for us.
The largest scale is that of organisational team building. With the exception of the senior management team, the ability of individuals to make an impact on the corporate culture is very limited. One of the key aims of the team building is to change the behaviours and attitudes prevalent in the organisation, which are almost independent of who actually works there – new recruits who are ‘different’ often start behaving in accord with the existing culture.
